Ely Cathedral is to become the latest Cathedral to launch its own app – allowing visitors to navigate their way round the 900-year-old site.
The App, which is available for download on most smartphones and tablets, will tell users about the history of the site, provide tour routes and information about the architecture and iconic stained glass windows. There are four unique trails (Tour, Children’s Tour, Story of Etheldreda and a Tour of the Monastic Precinct) which take the visitor through 1300 years of worship, art, architecture and the lives of truly remarkable people
The app was funded by The Friends of Ely Cathedral, and spearheaded by York University’s The Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture.
The Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture have been working on several other apps for places of worship as well as other forms of digital interpretation and it is worth having a look at their website to see the many new ways of presenting the history of a building that are now available.
